To sign up for the service, you only need to provide your name, email address and date of birth. No credit card number or social security number is needed. AllClearID’s free plan includes Internet surveillance, ID attack reporting, and identity repair services. If AllClearID finds your personal information in data recovered by law enforcement or criminal databases, they will contact you. The Internet surveillance service scans chat rooms where identities are sold, as well as P2P file sharing networks.
AllClearID also has premium protection plans that include credit monitoring services, $1 million in ID theft insurance, and more, for $9.95, but the free service sounds great for just basic online monitoring. (Note: If you’re comfortable providing your Social Security number and credit cards to a ID theft monitoring service, TrustedID has a free product as well).
